CALM

Introducing CALM: Supporting Emotional Wellbeing Together

At All Saints Catholic High School, we are committed to supporting not only academic success, but also the emotional wellbeing of our students. We are excited to introduce CALM, our school’s approach to helping students build the skills to manage their emotions and cope with everyday challenges. But... what is CALM?

A simple strategy to help students regulate their emotions:

C – Count (notice what’s around you)

A – Affirm (positive self-talk)

L – Long breaths (slow breathing)

M – Muscle relaxation (release tension)

CALM helps students to identify their feelings, including anxiety and everyday stress, and equips them with simple, practical strategies they can use independently in school and at home. It is not a one-off programme, but part of a wider commitment to creating a calm, supportive environment where students can thrive, feel more confident, and stay grounded in challenging moments.

Students who have taken part have shared how CALM has helped them feel more in control of their emotions and better able to support their mental wellbeing, with 95% reporting the programme as useful.

We look forward to working together to support a sense of CALM and wellbeing for every student. How you can support at home

  • Use the same language: “Shall we try CALM?”

  • Practise simple steps (e.g. breathing) when your child is calm

  • Reassure them that all emotions are okay

  • Keep it simple — even one step can help
